Yup. He was salty. Like much of the Left, McCain: great guy when a maverick and bi-partisan senate go-getter. As evil as all of the Republican Party when the venom spits in an election year. Thank heavens that we have another member of the celebrity crowd to straighten out us common folk rubes again. To be continued....

Why Dave would want to position himself an authority on matters way beyond his hands on, day-to-day experience is beyond me but to on the one hand praise McCain as such a salt of the earth, true blue, American hero and then get in a jab that this was all some manner of political ploy because of "sliding poll numbers?" Ouch. Mr. Letterman, that is disappointing. Wonder what would have happened had it been Obama instead.... -- Pedo
And the final thought. I wonder if Armisen will be asked or allowed to spoof Obama as a boob as they so readily show, quite frankly, an ageist slant to McCain, or if instead he'll only do a half-assed milquetoast impression that betrays what SNL used to be about -- giving everyone their due comeuppance. Truth is I actually like O and think he's a good man, just wish more folks would chill out on all the demonizing. -Pedo Letterman!
I think Letterman's point with all the hero talk is that, as someone who has interviewed McCain for many years, he is not seeing the same guy in this campaign. I agree he went too far, but it still made me laugh.
Canceling on Dave I can understand. But wanting to cancel/postpone/fuck up the debate schedule I can't. As if telling voters what's up is not important enough for you? And that as president, you can only handle one task at a time? If that wasn't a political move, then it was just an example of poor leadership.
As for straightening out the common folk rubes... Since nearly half this country still seems to think that McCain stands for something drastically different from Bush and that Sarah Palin is not way out of her league... I don't care who says it, but somebody better straighten us out fast. I'll take Damon or Letterman for VP any day over Ms. Alaska. At least they can string together some intelligent things to say for themselves.
You can't immediately discredit someone just for being in the entertainment industry. Guys like Redford, Clooney, and Bono get more done for society in their spare time than most of us do at our 9-5's. Remember, Reagan was once a movie star too.
True enough. Ronnie came from movies, then spent a LOT of time in politics before getting the top job. When Dave and Damon run, I'll imagine they'll have some seasoning under their belts. As to Clooney, Redford, Bono. I give them more credit than most as they act (and by that I mean take action). I think if Bono can feed a million or so by his presence alone or if Cheadle goes to Darfur, etc.... I'm just saying put up or.... well, put another Paris Hilton endorsement on here, I guess.
