The Pickens Plan

Last week, lifelong oilman T. Boone Pickens (awesome name) introduced his plan to cut the amount the U.S. is spending on foreign oil from $700 billion to $400 billion. His plan is to use more wind power for electricity which will then allow us to redirect natural gas to be used as transportation fuel. It sounds plausible enough, but he's talking about a pretty major change in a pretty short period of time. It will take some serious political backing to make it work. It'll be interesting to see how well this catches on and to learn about the feasibility of it all.

This is worth checking out as well:
Katie Couric interviews Pickens, TreeHuggers critique the plan.

This further supports my theory that we need to stop looking for a silver bullet solution and start strategizing a silver buckshot solution. Pickens' plan could play an important role in this, but it probably can't work without other alternative fuels, mass transit solutions, etc. Otherwise, we end up with a natural gas problem.

I thought this plan smelled a little fishy...
