Last.fm - the future of music?

I've been using Last.fm for over a year to track my listening habits, and then recommend new artists I may like (it does pretty well). They're launching a new version that lets you listen to full songs & albums, and pays the artists every time their tracks are played. After 3 plays, you'll have to pay up, but I'm alright with that. Why hasn't music always worked like this? So long RIAA. You won't be missed. http://blog.last.fm/2008/01/23/free-the-music

That sounds pretty sweet. Is it just for listening online, or can you download songs to play on an iPod?
